Welcome

Sharing our successes and forgetting how we got there is not a true reflection of the pains that many successful biologists go through when publishing their work. This book openly shares the personal struggles behind the successes in many different published papers in the Biological Sciences. In doing so, this book represents a reflective experience for those who author chapters about their work, in order to look for the positive in what might otherwise be regarded as a thoroughly negative experience. Negative peer review, random editorial decisions and downright unfair rejections; we’ve all been there. For those who read the chapters of this edited work, the shared community of practice represents an insight into the failures that everyone goes through - even though you might only see the success. In addition, you will learn some tricks of our trade, how to prepare yourself and face the inevitable failures, and keep your eye on the eventual success on your own publishing journey. Perhaps most importantly, this book provides inspiration for those of you who feel that you might want to give up. Publishing your work is very important, and we all want you to succeed, but sometimes you will need to persevere before you see your research in print.
